I feel like Hima, when writing Hetalia, did something that didn’t translate to western audiences very well. Something that just, most westerners don’t get and so they see something as very cut and dry, when in reality its not.
This is the concept of sworn or shield brothers/family.
This concept is entirely based in the fact that, while the word brother/family is there, the relationship isn’t necessarily familial, and is more like being sworn to protect, be and fight by your side, etc etc.
Thats how nations gain and lose relationships so fast, because their relationships are sworn, and if needed, if the situation calls you can cast said relationship aside, because its not adoption.
Even then, Hetalia has a habit of using the term big brother/sister as a term of respect. Even France does this, and England when he was little did list France as one of his older siblings. It’s not uncommon in Asian countries to refer to someone older as big brother/ sister, or other terms, simply because you respect and care for them.
Now you can of course choose to see it in a more western light, you can do whatever you like, however i will at least caution on the fact that Hima did write a lot of the Asian nation as siblings, or with a bit “?” as to what their relationship is, and i feel i wouldnt exactly call it okay if every Asian nation were related. So remember there is nuance to this situation, even if you see nations in a more western way.

Emisop means absolutely everything to me. I was able to find this ship on other websites, even was able to get a big folder saved with fanart for it, but it just breaks my heart that I can’t find a single ship post of it here, and I have to dig for it on other websites. Which sucks even more is that most of the shippers for it are from the Eastern side of the fandom so most of the time it’s in Japanese or Korean or Chinese so I can’t read any of it. I’ll see someone write a fanfic of the ship but it’s in Japanese so I can’t read it and I just feel like crying sometimes. Or a comic where the speech bubbles aren’t in English. The only time I can read stuff from these artists is by putting their Tweets through Google translate, and as we all know Google Translate is not very reliable. Of course I’m still able to find other people in the Western side of the fandom that loves it, and some even speaking English, but for the most part, it feels like I’m nearly alone on the Aesop and Emily train. Thankfully I got at least one of my friends into the ship too…

Arthur didn’t raise Alfred. He “colonized” him, meaning he used him for resources and just generally looked after him. Looked after him. As in, he watched him from a distance. If you watch the Davie episode you can see that several years go by at a time without England visiting. He had lots of other colonies, so he probably only visited America once every fifty years or so, which means America pretty much raised himself. A guardian is not the same thing as a parent. These are countries we’re talking about, immortal beings who grow to a certain point and then stay that age forever. By a historical standpoint, they have all colonized each other and therefore have all “raised each other”. And yes, that includes FrUk. It doesn’t matter how you “see”, or how you “interpret” it. The fact is Francis had a part in raising Arthur. They just don’t touch on it as much in the show.

Nope, because France had everyone call him big brother, including England. When you get right down to it, France, England, America, and Canada all had platonic connections to each other at some point in time, so you can’t really call one ship incest unless you say they’re all incest.
